“The only way we can change is if the American people demand it.” —President Obama
Lets demand it. It is time to make a change in our gun laws to make our country safer. The issue of gun control crosses partisan lines. President Obama’s speech was powerful and sincere. Those of us who believe there must be change to our gun laws have a chance for our voices to be heard and our beliefs to matter.
If you missed the speech and want to see the video or read the transcript, you can find it here: Obama’s Gun Speech.
Vice President Joe Biden sent the following information out via email. To show support for the new bills put forth, click on this link and follow to the bottom to sign your support. Read about the events that brought us to this point, learn about the plan we’ve proposed to help protect our kids, and then add your name in support to help build momentum for this plan.
Whether you are a member of the NRA or you believe that guns should be completely abolished, I think we can all agree that something has to change in order to decrease gun violence in our country. The government is not trying to take everyone’s guns away. Lets use common sense and intelligent reasoning to guide our decision making.
Another great way to try and get these bills passed through Congress is to email your local Congress and Senate representatives.
Allow me to share my letter with you all:
Dear Senator Boxer,
I am writing to voice my steadfast support for all of the new gun bills proposed by The White House.
I am tired of waking up each day wondering who the latest victims of gun violence were the previous day.
I am tired of waking up each day worrying that my family may be the next target of gun violence.
Gun violence will always exist whether your bills are passed or not, but surely with stricter laws we will see these devastating shootings lessen.
I am only one citizen with one opinion, but every person and every belief matters. Individually we can be heard and collectively we can change the world.
Please contact me if I can help further to get these gun law bills passed.

Please feel free to use my letter and send it out to your government representatives.
One of the children, Julia, who wrote President Obama after the Sandy Hook massacre said, “I know that laws have to be passed by Congress, but I beg you to try very hard.”
We must all try very hard.
Until next time, the mothership is signing off.
