All good things must come to an end, to make way for even better things to come.
This last year has been a big year of transition for me, professionally. A year ago I submitted a piece called “Putting All Your Eggs In One Basket” to Scary Mommy and they accepted it. It was the very first personal essay I had ever submitted and it was accepted. This began and flurry of writing and submitting for me that brought my writing in front of millions of eyes.
In 2015, I was published in a real actual book with paper and ink. I have another essay being published in a book coming out in a few months.
Lastly, the biggest decision I made this year is writing, editing and publishing my own anthology called he Multiples Illuminated: A Collection of Stories and Advice from Parents of Twins, Triplets and More.
These are all reasons that I have decided to take a hiatus from The Hip Mothership. I will keep the site up, and my Facebook and Twitter page active, but I will not be writing there for the unforeseeable future.
I have found that between writing articles to submit to other sites and learning how to self-publish, it has left little time for writing at The Hip Mothership.
I have loved writing about my kids and my family over the years; the funny stories about being a mom, or the honest stories about how hard it is. I wanted to tell the stories that other people didn’t want to tell. I wanted to share stories about my kids as a journal of what it was like to raise triplets plus a wild older child. Now my kids are getting older and they don’t want me to write about them. Ava hasn’t discovered my blog yet, but she will and I assure you she will not find all of my stories as hilarious as I do. I must respect my children’s privacy as they move into adolescence.
I will still have so many stories to tell about what it is like to raise children in a time of helicopter parenting, social media, and iDevices. I will just be publishing those stories on other platforms.
Leaving The Hip Mothership behind is like how I imagine it would be to send a child off to college. I birthed it, nurtured it, worked hard to create something I can be proud of and now it is time for us to part ways.
I want to thank all of you beautiful people who have supported me by reading my word babies these past eight years at The Hip Mothership. I do hope that this is not goodbye. I invite you, and truly hope you accept my invitation, to check out my new endeavor over at Multiples Illuminated. While a bulk of the website is geared toward parents of multiples, my partner Alison Lee and I also share personal stories and fabulous recipes on this site. There will be updates on the book we are writing, due out in Spring 2016. There will be other projects to come.
I want to thank my husband who has edited almost everything I have written over the years. He continues to be the sounding board for my written word. He edited this for me and he finds it a bit overdramatic. I tried to remove some of the drama, but it was difficult for me. This is from my heart.
Goodbyes are hard. I hope this isn’t goodbye. I’ll see you over at Multiples Illuminated.
The mothership is signing off, indefinitely.
