Big Book Reveal and The Story Behind It

September 24, 2015

I have always wanted to write a book. My very own book. Since the time I was little, I can remember wanting to be an author. When I was in 4th or 5th grade I had to do a book report all about what we want to be when we grow up, and I drew a picture of myself at a desk writing in the middle of a library.

I never thought it would happen. Writing and publishing a book is a huge undertaking and most of the time I already feel overwhelmed with life.

About a year ago I said to Chris “I am going to write an anthology about multiples.” I don’t think he believed me. I’m not even sure I believed myself. I didn’t know how I was going to do it. I didn’t know anything about publishing. The thought of writing a book terrified me and seemed unattainable.

Yet writing an anthology on multiples was calling to me.

I began obsessively listening to podcasts on publishing. I bought Dan Poynter’s books on self-publishing. I researched the internet for information on little ‘ol people like me who have a book they want to compile.

I had a partner who was working with me on the book, but her life took some unexpected detours and she could no longer be my partner on this journey to the unknown. I was prepared to go at it alone, but I was scared. It was a lot of work publishing on my own for the first time. And I believe two heads are better than one.

I sent fellow writer, editor and marketing guru Alison Lee an email one day asking her if I could hire her to do my blog tour for the multiples anthology. I told her I no longer have a partner so things are slow-going. She emailed me right back and told me that she is a mom to one-year-old twins and she would love to partner with me on the book. I jumped right on the opportunity to co-publish with Alison.

Alison lives in Malaysia, so when I wake up in the morning, she is going to bed. When I am going to bed at night, Alison is heading into her afternoon. While I’m sleeping, she is busy at work, and vice versa. We each bring a lot of passion and effort into this book, and so it is a wonderful partnership.

Without further adoo, I present the cover to our book, Multiples Illuminated, due out in Spring 2016.
