“Every secret of a writer’s soul, every experience of his life, every quality of his mind, is written large in his works.” —Virginia Woolf
People ask me quite often how long I have been writing. I say the same thing each time I’m asked: I have always been writing. I have never not been writing. Sometimes I write on paper, sometimes on the computer. Sometimes I write in my head while on walks, other times I write in my sleep creating stories through my dreams.
Everyone has a story to tell through their own rich life experiences. Writing stories is about observing the outside world and translating it through your perceptions onto the page. In doing so, you must be brave and honest and you must learn to take compliments and insults.
My story is one of love and loss, adventure and travel, infertility and children, and always writing. I enjoy voicing my opinion about current events through the written word. I like to write about parenting in the 21st century: a time of helicopter parenting, free-range parenting, and raising our kids with social media.
After struggling with my fertility, I became pregnant with triplets via In Vitro Fertilization. I began writing The Hip Mothership blog back in 2008 from a hospital bed where I was confined on bed rest from 30 weeks to nearly 34 weeks when I delivered.
During those three weeks when I struggled to keep my three babies inside my body, I learned to tell my story between slurping countless Jell-O’s. I named my blog The Hip Mothership because I was as big as a ship – a mother vessel carrying three babies on an incredible journey to places unknown. The Hip Mothership began as a blog about carrying and raising triplets and their wild big sister. Over the years, it evolved into stories that covered a broader range of topics, including general parenting thoughts, opinions related to the big news of the day, and stories about traveling.
I have spent most of my adult career as a freelance writer. I have worked with the building industry, edited a luxury lifestyle magazine, and written hundreds of articles for online news sites and community magazines.
When I am not writing, I am raising my four children in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. I love going on walks and hot yoga. I like to cook Indian, Mexican and Italian food for my family. I enjoy spicy food ~ the kind of spicy that burns your mouth and makes you sweat. I like to go outdoors with my family on adventures. Above all, I love to travel.
In 2015 I made a dream come true for myself by co-writing, editing and publishing an anthology to support moms and dads of multiples. When I was pregnant with triplets, and terrified, I didn’t have many resources to guide me through the unusual experience. It was my dream to offer that to the world. On May 1st, 2016, the first-of-its-kind anthology called Multiples Illuminated: A Collection of Stories and Advice From Parents of Twins, Triplets and More, was published. It will be the first in a future series of books for parents of multiples. The next book in the series called Multiples Illuminated: Life With Twins and Triplets, From Toddlers to Tweens, will be out in 2017.
My portfolio section of my website outlines all my published works. Browse through it to get a sense of my writing style and breadth of work. My Writer For Hire section talks about the scope of my services, expanding from freelance writing to guidance in self-publishing and more.
