New York Comic Con: ‘Venom 3’ Director on If This Is The Last ‘Venom’ Movie

The action-packed trilogy capper Venom: The Last Dance hits theaters on Oct. 25, which could be bittersweet news for franchise fans. If any doubts remained about the third film closing a chapter, Friday’s Sony panel at New York Comic Con cleared it up.

“This is the last Venom movie,” director Kelly Marcel confirmed during the panel. “We always saw this as three pictures, and we wanted to tell Eddie and Venom’s story in three movies. And the arc for Venom and Eddie closes here. But, as you know, there are lots of symbiote stories in the canon, so there’s lots of places to go, and maybe even there are a few easter eggs in here that might start that journey off.”

When asked if there is still a chance for audiences to see Venom and Spider-Man interact, star Tom Hardy said he’s “well up for” fighting Spider-Man in a movie.

“I would never say never on this,” Hardy said. “But you know, as Kelly says, we specifically were set up to create Venom and bring him to — in a movie format, and that’s what we’ve done. And the Last Dance is the final piece within that trilogy, and we’re super excited about it.”

In addition to Hardy, who once again plays journalist Eddie Brock and the alien symbiote Venom, and Marcel, new Venom cast members Chiwetel Ejiofor and Juno Temple appeared during the panel to talk The Last Dance and screen footage from the film for the NYCC crowd.

Following 2018’s Venom and the 2021 sequel Let There Be Carnage, Venom 3 finds Eddie and Venom “hunted by both of their worlds,” according to a Sony synopsis. The cast also includes Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach and Stephen Graham.
