Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam gives Dodgers World Series Game 1 win over Yankees: Live updates and reaction

How about Jazz Chisholm Jr. scoring the go-ahead run in Game 1 of the World Series?

Chisholm entered the night just 5-for-34 with 11 strikeouts in the postseason. Earlier today, Yankees manager Aaron Boone was answering questions about Chisholm’s struggles.

“What gives me confidence is how good and talented he is, and I feel like he’s a guy that plays with a lot of confidence,” Boone said before Game 1. “He expects to do really well, even when he goes through it a little bit.”

Boone’s comments on Chisholm have proved prescient. Chisholm made a key defensive play in the seventh inning, and then his 10th inning single made him 2-for-5 on the night. In a deadlocked game, he stole second and third with Blake Treinen on the mound before scoring on a groundball to shortstop.

“He has one good at-bat, and he’s the guy that has that capability of taking over a little bit with just his power and his speed,” Boone had said. “But right now just want him to kind of think less is more, kind of focus pitch to pitch, having a good at-bat, and not worry about taking over the game, so to speak.”
