Watch The Weeknd’s New Music Video Shot Solely With iPhone 16 Pro

It was teased at the Apple live event on Monday, but on Friday, Grammy-award-winning musician The Weeknd released the entire video for his song Dancing In The Flames, shot entirely on the new iPhone 16 Pro. The video depicts The Weeknd getting into a crash in a vintage red convertible while driving in a storm, and includes a cool effect generated by the phone’s slo-mo 4K resolution setting at 120 frames per second.

Dancing in the Flames is the lead single from the singer’s sixth studio album, Hurry Up Tomorrow. There’s no release date yet for the album, and the singer has hinted that it will be the last album he makes under The Weeknd stage name. The singer’s birth name is Abel Tesfaye.

“Shooting (in 4k resolution at 120 frames per second), really helped us to slow down reality,” Eric Hendrickson, the video’s cinematographer, said in a video shared at the Apple event. “(It helped) slow down the elements, slow down The Weeknd’s movement. You didn’t have to think like, ‘oh, it’s just an iPhone.’ We just pushed it as far as we normally do, really creating epic shots.”

The Weeknd premiered Dancing In The Flames in a one-night-only concert livestreamed from São Paulo, Brazil on Sept. 7. Billboard’s review said the new song “has the hallmarks of a hit from first listen,” writing that the singer’s voice “soars over an indelible synth line, singing of an odyssey where ‘We’re dancing in the flames/ It’s indescribable.'”

This isn’t the first time The Weeknd has been involved with Apple products. In July, Apple announced that an immersive performance by the musician would come to the Apple Vision Pro headset.

Other music videos shot on iPhones include Olivia Rodrigo’s Get Him Back! which was shot entirely on an iPhone 15 Pro Max in 2023, and Lady Gaga’s Stupid Love, shot with an iPhone 11 in 2020.

The new Apple phones will be available for preorder Sept. 13, and available in stores as of Sept. 20.
