The Los Angeles Lakers have picked USC Trojans guard Bronny James at No.55 in the second round draft – where he will link up with father Lebron to make NBA history.

Bronny James – the oldest son of the NBA’s all-time scoring leader and four-time champion LeBron – was drafted by the team his father has played for since 2018.

“Beyond blessed,” Bronny James wrote in an Instagram post.

Adding further intrigue to the move, Lebron James can become a free agent next week, which means he could choose to leave the Lakers and sign elsewhere.

Although, it has taken 21 NBA seasons for Lebron to be gifted with such a scenario – and has come with plenty of trouble.

The 19-year-old was a staple of Sierra Canyon in Los Angeles and went to USC for the 2023 season. He suffered a serious cardiac arrest last year that put his basketball career in limbo. He went months later to re-enter the basketball arena and enter the NBA draft.

Bronny and his father are set to make waves, playing alongside one another, becoming the first ever father-son combo.

Bronny’s agent Rich Paul was reportedly calling other teams who had the chance to pick the youngster prior to the Lakers – telling them to steer clear.

“”In the history of the NBA, there’s never been a father and a son that have shared an NBA basketball court and that feels like something that could be magical,” Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said.

The college graduate averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in his only season at USC.
